Chetan Rastogi

Portfolio Manager, Partner

Chetan (Chet) Rastogi is responsible for systematic portfolios, security research, selection and portfolio construction.  He is a business analyst at heart who believes that stocks are fractional interests in businesses; and investing is about buying good businesses run by competent and honest managements.  Chet uses rules based proprietary algorithms to narrow the opportunity set and deep fundamental analysis to guide the investment process.

Chet brings rich experience and analytical tool sets to Heron Bay Capital Management.  After his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from IIT (India), Chet earned a scholarship to pursue graduate degrees at The Ohio State University.  As an Engineer and Manager at GM Advanced Engineering, Chet was responsible for developing and deploying several pioneering engineering and statistical optimization tools at GM which resulted in record of inventions and the GM CIO award.

Being entrepreneurial, he left GM to start an engineering design and manufacturing firm serving the automotive and defense industry. Roles included sales, design, operations, acquisitions and divestments.

Prior to joining Heron Bay Capital Management, he was the Manager of Quantitative Research at Seizert Capital Partners based in Birmingham, MI.

What drives you?

I start with first principles. I believe in independent and multidisciplinary thinking, lifelong learning and improvement. Part of that improvement means reexamining and discarding beliefs that are proven to be wrong. Investing is my passion, because it is arguably the hardest “problem” to solve. Unlike math or engineering, investing is full of behavioral biases which lead to a very noisy environment. Empirical, data drive approaches can mitigate these. Finding signal is hard and requires an uncommon combination of business understanding, rationality and statistical tools.

Other Interests include reading widely, racquet sports (squash, tennis), bicycle riding, nature and gardening.
